For authors with the budget to invest in their project, custom illustration is a phenomenal way to make sure that your cover is tailored to your specific project.

Apprentices: Order using your Patreon email address and select "Invoice Me" at checkout to get your #WUApprentice discount for services and books.

NOTE: Custom illustration cover design pricing includes one (1) background, one (1) character, and one (1) item. For example, a lush forest in winter (background) featuring a plump sorceress (character) and the coffin that floats behind her as she walks (item).

Cover Design: Custom Illustration

  1. Purchase your custom illustration cover design service.
  2. Submit any notes on preferences you have or example designs that you like. For ebooks and audiobooks: We just need your preferences (certain colors, specific typefaces, etc.). For audiobooks, let us know who the book is read by so their name can be added to the cover. For print books: We need to know the trim size of the book, how many pages long it is in that trim size, and any copy or images you want placed on the back cover of the book.
  3. We will create an initial mockup of your book cover idea and submit it to you.
  4. You provide feedback on things you'd like to see changed or any specific details you want to make sure we include in the finished piece.
  5. We take your feedback and apply it to the mockup to create a second version.
  6. You review the second version of the mockup and either approve it or give us a final round of mockup feedback.
  7. You select one character or other element of the cover to use as an audition piece.
  8. We apply the feedback to your mockup and deliver the project specs to our art team and let them compete for your business by providing a sample based on the audition material you chose.
  9. The samples are submitted to you and you get to choose the artist who has the style you like best. This will become the artist for your cover.
  10. The artist is provided with the full mockup so that they can create line art for the piece.
  11. The line art is submitted to management upon completion and submitted to a quality control review. If no major issues are found, the line art is forwarded to you for review.
  12. Reply to the line art with any feedback you have.
  13. The artist applies the feedback as they finalize the image.
  14. The final cover is submitted to management upon completion and subjected to a quality control review. If no major issues are found, the final art is forwarded to you for review.
  15. You can provide one final list of adjustments to the piece.
  16. Your feedback is applied and you receive both the display and source files for the ebook, print book, and audiobook versions of your cover.

Timeline: Generally, about 6 weeks per cover. But this can change based on various factors, such as how long it takes you to submit feedback, how complicated your vision for the cover is, office holidays, etc.
